Cousino Macul Antiguas Reservas Chardonnay, Chile, in Vintages now- $15.95

The winery  was founded in 1856, though vines are said to have cultivated on the site since the 16th century.  In 1990, the family expanded with an acquisition of another 300 hectares of land and constructed a new winery in Buin.

The Chardonnay offers a simple, coconut-scented bouquet with a touch of pot pourri. The palate is light and balanced with simple citrus and almond notes on the light finish that soon tapers away. Drink now.

Monte Faustino Recioto Valpolicella DOCG-500 ml $47.95 91 points Wine Spectator

Recioto Della Valpolicella is a  sweet, unfortified wine DOC that was so named because only the ripest ‘ears’ (‘rece’ is Italian slang for ears ‘orecchie’) of each bunch of grapes were selected to make the wine.

Recioto is made using the same ‘appassimento’ process as Amarone but the fruit is left to dry for an extra month, thus necessitating the selection at harvest of only the very best bunches.

Once pressed, after at least 1st January following the harvest, the juice’s fermentation is arrested prematurely to capture the fresh, sweet primary fruit characters. The resulting wine is massively rich in dry extract and high in residual sugar  but has a relatively modest alcohol level of around 12%.

The wine is then typically matured for 12 months in small French barriques. Recioto della Valpolicella wine should be medium-bodied with a beautiful, crushed velvet texture and a palate brimming with vivid, seductive black fruit and chocolate. Not surprisingly, only tiny quantities are made each year – a mere 2% of Amarone.

91 points Wine Spectator.......

Lightly sweet, yet creamy and light on its feet, this offers fine balance and a pleasing array of dried plum, coffee, almond and ground spice notes. Drink now through 2018. 600 cases made.

Delord Bas- Armagnac 1981, France, released in November LCBO Classics- Score 97

TASTING NOTE: Secondary and tertiary aromas, such as miso, dried chanterelles and leather, sing in this long aged Armagnac. The palate shows hints of stony mineral and tamari, along with a hint of butterscotch. An intricately balanced spirit.

Rolly Gassmann Gewurtztraminer , Alsace, France, released in Nov 6th LCBO Classics $66.00

Rolly-Gassmann is a Domaine like no one else. It is located to Rorschwihr, a sleepy village on the northern rim of Haut-Rhin. Rolly-Gassmann offers no wines from Grand Grands Cru terroirs, but from a set of very good Lieux-dits such as Silberberg, Muenchreben and Plaenzerreben. The vineyards are located in Rorschwihr and the neighbouring Rodern and Bergheim and exhibit large geological differences.

Rolly-Gassmann has a unique style. The wines are small masterpieces with very good definition. They all carry the signature of Rolly-Gassmann, a certain shameless, velvety sweetness. The fruit is rich and Rolly-Gassmann manages to balance the fruit with a vibrant acidity to form seductive wines that melt on the palate.

Rolly-Gassmann is an outstanding producer that delivers first class wines from every variety in each vintage.

Muriel Gran Reserva, Spain, 2004 Just released in LCBO Vintages $24.95

The 2004 Gran Reserva is sourced from an average of 40-year-old vines and sees thirty months in American and French oak. It offers a mocha-scented bouquet with a metallic seam infusing the dark red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, lithe tannins and a pleasant, harmonious, fleshy finish. There are hints of maraschino, orange zest and blueberry lingering, and I suspect that this primal Gran Reserva that will age nicely over the next decade.

San Polo Auka Bonarda, Argentina-- In LCBO Vintages March 15,2014 $14.95 # 357226

The Bonarda grape is gaining ground on the consumers’ tables all over the world. It stands out for being easy to drink, with a great color, soft tannins, and mainly low alcohol content, a distinctive feature in the face of the new trends.  Bonarda is a variety blessed with great winemaking potentiality in Argentina and it is considered the second most important red grape, behind Malbec. Argentina is the only producer of this grape; therefore it is a varietal wine with no competition in other countries.

“It is a product exhibiting a lovely color, with fresh and fruity nose; sometimes, it usually offers clove aromas, velvety palate and soft tannins. A really important feature is that its alcohol content is below 13.5.”

Tiberio Trebbiano d' Abruzzo 2012 Doc, Italy

$15.95  # 365478

92 points,  by Ian d' Agata- International Wine Cellar

"Strong notes of lime peel, peach, fresh herbs, ginger and white flowers on the nose..... the extremely long palate-saturating finish is bring and floral.  This is Tiberio's best young Trebbiano d' Abruzzo ever: a complex wine that combines minerality and orchard fruit flavours with more obvious ripe tropical fruits, all the while maintaining a degree of refinement"
